Smart City projects to be developed by Russian conglomerate Sistema JSFC
Russian conglomerate Sistema JSFC is looking at smart city opportunities in India. After the Government’s decision to invest over Rs 7,000 crore in setting up 100 smart cities, many foreign investors have started showing interests in investing in India’s infrastructure sector.
A company spokesperson stated that they are likely to start with one or two pilot projects. Sistema JSFC together with its daughter company SITRONICS CAMS have already built up subsystems of Smart City in various cities including Moscow, Rostov, Ufa and Makhachkala. Hence they have the required expertise and the only thing they need to do is to replicate that success story in India.
Sistema operates services in India under the MTS brand. The Moscow Smart City project budget was around $6.5 billion and the population is approximately 12 million people according to the official data as of 2013. The project budget for other Russian cities varied between $130 million and $650 million.
Hence now we can look forward to Modi’s government’s dream on building 100 smart cities. These smart cities are cited to have waste management system, conservation of natural resources systems (will use solar and wind energy), better transportation, digitally controlled security systems and many other facilities. It is expected that these smart cities will house the major IT and ITeS companies and manufacturing units so that jobs are created for the youth.
