Think Before You Hire Maids
In at least two cases, maids hired through a placement agency and a security agency looted valuables from the employer’s house.
Bangalore is home to lakhs of working couples who need a maid at home. With demand being high, some people have started offering maids at your doorsteps. Dubious people are taking advantage of demand for maids among working couples. But in at least two cases, maids hired through a placement agency and a security agency looted valuables from the employer’s house.
Anil- a resident of SJR Brooklyn Apartment in Kundanahalli on ITPL Main Road in Mahadevapura, hired Lakshmamma on January 2.She did not turn up on January 11, but another maid named Amara came to his house. She told Anil that Lakshmamma had requested her to do her work till she could resume duty. After working for three days, Amara took the day off on Sankranti. On January 16th, Anil requested the security guard to trace Lakshmamma or Amara. Instead, the security guards sent another maid named Usha at 10.20 am to his flat. Usha worked for almost 40 minutes cleaning vessels and the house. After she left, Anil realised that 80 grams of gold jewellery and three pairs of silver anklets were missing from the house. When he questioned the security guards, they could not provide any details. Her address on the security register was ‘Brookfield, Bangalore’.
In another case, Rahul Sharma and his wife, both techies and residents of an apartment complex near Sarjapur Road, availed the services of a maid through Delhi-based Sushil Kumar Placements. Sushil agreed to provide a maid in Bangalore for a commission of Rs 25,000 plus Rs 2,000 in travelling expenses. A woman identified as Renu brought a maid named Aarati to Rahu’ls house on January 18. Aarati provided her bio-data and a character certificate issued by the New Delhi police. On January 20, she was not to be found in the house. Electronic goods and other valuables were also missing. Rahul tried to contact Sushil and Renu, but their mobile phones were switched off.
Police complaints have been filed in both cases.
