An 18-month-old boy accidentally slipped from his mother’s arms and fell to his death from the ninth floor of an apartment on Monday morning. The incident happened around 9.45 am in C Block, Adarsh Rhythm apartment at Panduranga Layout in JP Nagar. Mother and son were near the window in the balcony corridor in front of her flat in JP Nagar. The excited toddler suddenly leaped out of his mother’s arms, and fell to his death from the ninth floor.

Amrutha Kashyap, 25, on Monday witnessed a gruesome accident that will probably haunt her for the rest of her life. The young mother held a bowl in one hand and her baby in the other. In a bid to persuade her baby to eat his breakfast, Amrutha took him to the balcony for a walk. The balcony had sliding window panes made of glass, without any grills. As Amruta and Arman stood by the window, the panes were open. There was nothing to block the child’s fall, after he leaped out of his mother’s arms.

After losing grip of Arman, the mother tried in vain to hold on. Soon after she realised what had happened, Amrutha fell unconscious.Police said Arman broke both his legs in the accident and sustained serious injuries on the head. There were minor scratches on his hands too. He fell on his legs, before his back hit the porch.

Arman fell on to the rooftop of the fourth-floor porch and died on the spot. The boy, found in a pool of blood, was immediately shifted to Fortis Hospital, just behind the apartment block. However, doctors declared Arman brought dead.

Arman’s father Vishal Kumar Kashyap, 30, a software engineer, was away at work in a private firm at the time. The couple’s older child — a daughter — was in school.
