Traffic Police in Hyderabad to impose Strict laws against Drunken driving
The Traffic police in Hyderabad has announced that they will deal strictly to cases pertaining to drunken driving now onwards. The move was initiated by the Traffic police after the figures of accidents were revealed in the city. In India, 1.2 lakh deaths are caused by road accidents every year, in Andhra Pradesh alone, there are some 2007 road accidents. In most of the cases the cause of the accidents is drunken driving. Mr C V Anand, Additional Commissioner of Police (Traffic) has stated that they will not only detain the vehicle but will also book a case against the culprits under Section 185 of the IPC and impose a penalty of Rs 1,000.
The Traffic police in Hyderabad were already handed the latest KT-4000P hand-held breath alcohol analyzers the project is funded by the World Health Organisation (WHO). Mr Anand had also said that ample training to use the equipment to the Hyderabad police was given by Des Myers, who had worked with the Victoria Police, Australia for 27 years as Chief Inspector. He had come to India to impart training as part of the pilot project.
