Traffic snarls at Zirakpur to be eased by six-lane ring road

1 Comment Sub Category:Uncategorized Posted On: May 17, 2014

It will provide relief to commuters from traffic jams on the Ambala-Chandigarh Highway. The project launched by the state government in 2012 is likely to be completed soon. A six-lane ring road will divert Delhi-Manali, Delhi-Dharamsala, Delhi-Shimla and Shimla-Patiala-Bathinda traffic from Zirakpur.

It will provide a major relief to the commuters from frequent traffic jams. The link road will also help motorists heading towards Shimla, Manali, Dharamsala, Patiala and Bathinda. In an effort to decongest the Zirakpur intersection of the Ambala-Chandigarh Highway and the Patiala-Shimla Highway, the Punjab Government has taken up an Rs 1,000-crore project to lay a six-lane ring road.

The 3.5-km six-lane ring road will rejoin the Zirakpur-Patiala road near Chhat village and then meet the Aero City in Manali to rejoin the Chandigarh-Manali Highway in Kharar and will divert traffic from the Chandigarh-Ambala Highway near the Ghaggar Bridge.

The traffic heading towards Panchkula and Shimla would be diverted from the same point to take the Sanauli road that will rejoin the Zirakpur-Panchkula road ahead of Sector 20, Panchkula similarly.

The volume of vehicular traffic on the Zirakpur intersection and the overbridge will be reduced to almost half with the construction of the ring road.
