Ward 14 Gurgaon has the Maximum Number of Non-Existent Projects

No Comments Sub Category:Uncategorized Posted On: Aug 24, 2011

Most of the projects in Gurgaon village which are shown to be sanctioned on paper, either do not exist or had been completed years ago but were being shown as new so that payments could be made according to the inflated rates.

Of a total of 23 projects in Ward 14, 21 projects have apparently been done in Gurgaon village while the ward also consists of areas like Sector 5, Old Railway Road and Ashok Puri, among others. In one of these inflated projects – of putting 725 jersey barriers at a “miscellaneous” location at a cost of Rs 49.30 lakh – the contract was given to S R Kataria Enterprises located in Jhajjar with an NCR mobile number. When called, it turned out to be a cousin of the current MLA and a company located in Gurgaon’s Sector 12. Also each barrier was purchased by the MCG for Rs 6,400 which is otherwise available for between Rs 2,500 and Rs 3,000. However, these projects are just the tip of the iceberg, according to several councillors in the city.

What is interesting is the fact that the local MLA of Gurgaon is a native of the village and most tenders have been awarded to his “kin”. Take for example the contract for Eight Biswa crematorium ground. While papers say that the contract, amounting to Rs 5.90 lakh, for the construction of a hall at the ground has been awarded to the local MLA’s nephew, Vikram Dabas, according to the residents of the ward, however, the site does not even exist.

Similar is the case with four other projects, all in Gurgaon village, which amount to Rs 37.15 lakh and are non-existent to date. Even so, the projects have been marked as ‘completed’ or ‘in progress’ as per 2010 records of the MCG.

Ward 14 in old Gurgaon has been found to have the maximum number of non-existent projects amounting to Rs 43.05 lakh. “We have been asking the MCG officials to justify the money spent on different projects, but no official is ready to reply on this. Many expenses have been shown in the estimated details of the MCG for the projects of the sites, which do not even exist in the ward,” said councillor of the ward, Sunita Kataria.
