Water Meter Project Resumed by BMC Mumbai
Water meter reading project which was discontinued in April has been resumed by the BMC. They have already started installing the meters. 90% of the meters that were installed earlier were non-functional and the civic body had been charging consumers on the basis of last consumption.
According to the hydraulics department, around 51,500 water meters have been installed since August. The project is estimated to cost around Rs 415 crore.
The technology will help the civic body collect data from meters automatically and then transfer the details to a central database for billing based on actual consumption rather than depending on previous or predicted readings.
