Property tax imposition gets Ropar Municipal Council’s approval
Ropar- Ropar Municipal Council has given its approval for the imposition of property tax in the town against opposition by some of its councillors.
The Punjab government had proposed imposition of property tax and few of the councillors opposed it saying that paying property tax would be a burden to the residents in the town. At last, considering majority, the council approved the agenda of imposition of property tax.
One of the councilors of the town felt something fishy in the work related to laying of tiles on a small stretch of road near Civil Hospital in Ropar. He demanded an enquiry regarding the Municipal Council authorities spending Rs. 4 lakh on the small work. He demanded an enquiry into the matter and said that he would file a complaint with Vigilance Bureau in this regard.
The Municipal Council of Ropar has also approved the extension of the contract of 13 firemen and drivers recruited on contract basis following the decision of Punjab and Haryana High Court in the petition pending in the court regarding the recruitment. It also directed to include additional areas of the town in the municipal limits of the town.
