Water meters mandatory for Ahmedabad buildings from 1st April
Ahmedabad- Ahmedabad Municipal Commissioner has made installation of water meters mandatory for all kinds of properties in Ahmedabad.
The new rule will come to effect from April 1 and Rs 4425-crore municipal budget has been sanctioned in this regard. As per the new rule, any property in the city, whether residential or non-residential, has to install water meters without which it will not be permitted to use water.
The Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation plans to install water meters to all properties in Ahmedabad in the next five years.
The Corporation has developed proposals worth Rs 2,470 crore to be covered by revenue, 55 percent of which would be sourced from taxes and the 45 percent from other sources.
Another major project that has been planned is construction of flyovers at six locations of the city- Helmet Junction, Hatkeshwar, Income Tax Office, Shyamal Char Rasta, Anjali Cinema and Dinesh Chambers. AMC has set aside Rs 65 crore for this project. It has also proposed a road overbridge construction at Naroda.
The AMC has planned to expand the BRTS routes from Iskcon to Bopal, Ellis Bridge to Kalupur and Nehrunagar to L D College. The project is likely to be completed by the end of March, and the budget for the same is estimated to be Rs 179.82 crore. The route will be further taken from L D College to Ellis Bridge, Visat Pump to Sardar Patel Ring Road, Kalupur to Delhi Gate, Kalupur to Naroda, and Shah Alam to Ellis Bridge by March 2014, for which cost is estimated to be Rs 120 crore.
By the end of phase three, its corridor length will be 130 km for which Rs 200 crore has been kept aside. AMC has earmarked around Rs 110 crore for purchase of 224 BRT vehicles.
The Corporation is set to build 16,672 residential units in Ahmedabad by December 2012 and 3,488 units in 2013-2014 for which it has earmarked a budget of Rs 51 crore.
AMC has planned to install solar lighting systems at 10 locations in order to save around 70 percent in the power bills. Like Transport House for AMTS, it is proposed to build AJL House for BRT operations and SRFDCL Bhavan for riverfront project operations.
