BDA allots G category sites violating High Court order
Bangalore – The Bangalore Development Authority (BDA) has allotted ‘G’ category sites to 22 people, of which most of them are politicians, which is in violation with the Karnataka high court’s order.
‘G’ category sites are BDA sites that are allotted under the chief minister’s discretionary quota. As per the court order passed on Dec 15, 2010, the state government has no power or authority under the provisions of BDA Act of 1976 to allot G-category sites to any person. But owing to political influences, BDA officials allotted sites to 22 people within an year.
According to a report by Comptroller and Auditor General (CAG), many allottees under ‘G’ category were allocated sites in prime locations like BTM Layout, RMV II stage and HSR Layout. Four corner sites and 22 commercial sites were allotted by BDA to people under ‘G’ category, causing a loss of Rs 23.67 crore to the government.
The Karnataka government said that during 2007-2011, it has allotted 438 G-category sites to politicians and other people credited for making significant contributions to the field of arts and sports during 2007-11. But as per the CAG report around 263 of the 438 sites were allotted to people who are neither politicians nor in the fields of arts and sports. Bangalore Development Authority (BDA) has even allocated site to waiters and drivers too.
Few main politicians who have been allotted the sites are Vijaya Sankeshwara, Basavaraja Patil Sedam, Thanvir Sait and G Madhusudana. Some of the government officials, including IFS and IAS officers, and ex-MLCs and MLAs have also received sites after the Karnataka high court judgment.
