Delhi builders receive notices from forest department
Noida- Many builders have received notices from the Gautam Budh Nagar district forest department for undertaking construction work within 10km radius of the Okhla Bird Sanctuary without getting any clearances from the National Board for Wildlife.
Within 10km radius of the sanctuary, 53 renowned developers of Delhi have planned to develop their projects. None of the developers bothered to seek environment and wildlife clearance for their projects, which is mandatory according to the Supreme Court’s order. Earlier the authority had sent notices to some of the developers but none of them had responded.
The forest department has requested buyers not to buy flats which are developed on the gross violation of wildlife norms and guidelines. In future, such projects would surely land in various legal issues with Union ministry of environment and forest.
No substantial action was taken in this part even after 20 months that Ministry of Environment and Forests (MoEF) directed to stop construction work. As per sources, Uttar Pradesh wildlife officers were unable to take action against the builders in the eco-sensitive zone owing to strong pressure from the leading builders.
A nine-member team headed by Gautam Budh Nagar district magistrate has been formed by the UP wildlife department. It includes members from Noida Authority, Greater Noida Authority, pollution control board, public works department and other departments who are supposed to work towards declaring the area eco-sensitive. As per environmentalists no action has been taken till date in this regard.
