Development of 91 unauthorised colonies approved by Delhi govt
New-Delhi- In the light of the upcoming elections, the Delhi Government has decided to start developmental work on the 91 unauthorized colonies which had encroached the land belonging to the Archaeological Survey of India (ASI) and forest department.
As per an official from the Urban Development Ministry, the government has given a nod to the concerned agencies for starting the developmental work on the unauthorized colonies with provisional regularization certificates being issued in 2008.
These 91 unauthorized colonies are a part of the 205 unauthorized colonies in Delhi which were approved for regularization by the Delhi Cabinet. The official also stated that there were about 91 unauthorized colonies issues by the Urban Development DepartmentĀ on which the developments will take place very soon.
However, there was a clearance issued by various concerned agencies and departments for the developmental work. The Delhi Cabinet had however given a principle approval for regularization of about 205 unauthorized colonies in order to make way for the development.
As per the officials, there were about 205 colonies out of which 157 colonies partly came under the forest land followed by 48 settlements encroaching land belonging to the ASI.
The developmental work was stalled as the government had to get a clearance from the forest department and the ASI to regularize the colonies. There were about 895 colonies being regularized in September which housed about 35 lakh residents. However, the list of all the 114 remaining colonies for the developmental works will be issued very soon.
In 2008, the Delhi Government had issued provisional regularization certificates to 1,639 unauthorized coloniesĀ prior to theĀ assembly polls, followed by a promise by Sheila Dikshit government to regularize the colonies if the Congress wins for the third term.
