kochi metroKochi- Now the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) has taken charge of Kochi metro, it started inviting tenders within few days of the formal announcement. Now DMRC is trying to get land on lease to set up casting yards in and around the city.

If the land is available on time, contractors can start their work with no delay. At these yards, construction materials like cement, sand and steel will be collected. This stock will cause no problem to public and vehicles.

Kochi Metro will be an elevated rail which will cover 25km distance from Alwaye to Petta with 22 stations. Along with inviting tenders, DMRC will also handle design and supervision with advisor E M Sreedharan.

The metro authorities have talked to the Kochi Metro Rail Ltd (KMRL) regarding land lease for three years. They are also discussing this lease matter with major public sector undertakings (PSUs). The authorities are holding talks at various levels to lease land required for setting up casting yards. For example land owned by PSUs such as FACT and HMT at Kalamassery, Steel Authority of India (SAIL) at Thripunithura, Kerala Water Authority at Kadavanthara and Kerala State Housing Board (KSHB) near High Court Junction are also into consideration.

The work of setting up yard at Manapattyparambu has already initiated for running preparatory works. This land is owned by Greater Cochin Development Authority (GCDA). Steel grinders required at construction site were built at Manapattyparambu.

Since the state government has convinced DMRC to include accountability clauses in terms of quality, safety and performance, DMRC will make sure of security and safety of workers working at these yards. No other person will be allowed to enter who is not involved in the construction. Also workers will be made aware of safety measures through campaigns.
