CPP projectHyderabad- As soon as  the serious communal situation improves in the Old City of the work related to  Hyderabad, Charminar Pedestrianisation Project (CPP) can retrieve.

The Greater Hyderabad Municipal corporation (GHMC) officials are waiting for the police to give green signal in this regard. According to them the work at CPP project was to be resumed a month ago. But they could not do so because of the communally charged atmosphere there.

The proposed plan of  CPP will provide a quality urban environment which will be accessible, protected  and aesthetic. The major works include, pedestrianisation of Charminar surrounds, conservation of historic structures in the Precinct and upgradation of infrastructure in Hyderabad city.

A deep thought to this project was given 13 years back. The work restarted with clearing encroachments and widening roads in 2011. They also laid cobble stones on one side of the Sardar Mahal-Charminar stretch from Charminar to Gulzar Hauz which was protested by the traders of the shops. Thus the work on other side of the road could not be finished. Then GHMC decided to take up work after Ramzan month.

According to the GHMC officials, cops pleaded to stop their work in December 2012 due to tense communal situation prevailing there. Some bins near Sardar Mahal were already moved and  two truck loaded with cobblestones were also deposited. Even material was also deposited opposite Salar Jung Museum for the CPP. But at last moment police requested to not carry out work.

The project was also sanctioned Rs 90 lakhs from standing committee’s  for uniform signage. This signage should be uniform in shape and size on the Madina-Charminar stretch match the the appearance and feel of the heritage precinct.
