Gurgaon to have more bus routes

No Comments Sub Category:Civic Issues,Gurgaon Posted On: Jan 02, 2013

bus-services-in-gurgaonGurgaon- In an attempt to ease the local transport, the Haryana Roadways  is all set to introduce more bus routes in every nook and corner of the city.  As per the strategy, an additional number of 30 bus routes will be initiated from 12.

With the extra 30 bus routes, there will be 150 buses  running in double shifts by March 2013. Due to the narrow lanes, Haryana Roadways has planned to deploy 10 mini buses within the old city. Studies denote that there are about one lakh passengers who depend on the bus facilities everyday.

The General manager of Haryana Roadways, Kashender Singh stated that the key reasons for the initiation of inter-city bus service were for better public transport facilities and the  zealous response from the bus commuting public. However, they have planned to introduce another 18 routes which will be launched by March. Apparently, there will be about 150 buses from the current 80 buses.

With the plans in process, there have been conductors in requisite numbers but Gurgaon depot has shortage of bus drivers. It was stated that there have been an in-house selection of bus drivers followed by 955 applications being received. As per Singh, the department will be conducting a test in January and will finalize the applicants by the end of February.   Perhaps they have planned to select about 300 bus drivers.

With 150 buses being launched, 50 low-floor buses will be air conditioned ad the rest 100 will be generally operational. The crowded streets and clustered properties in Gurgaon will have the 10 mini buses running within. The Haryana Urban Development Authority ( HUDA) and the Municipal Corporation of Gurgaon (MCG) has plans to construct bus stops and put up bus route signage excluding the consent of civic agencies. The signages will be operational from the first week of January.

Lastly, the department also plans to relocate half the number of buses under the city bus service to Sector 29  followed by a new bus stand.
