Hyderabad metro crossing designs get approved
Hyderabad- As the work at Hyderabad metro is progressing, slowly all obstacles are getting eliminated. Currently the General Agreement Drawings (GAD) for all the eight metro rail crossings have been accepted by the Railway within time frame.
This approval on time will automatically motivate the L&T Metro Rail Hyderabad (L&TMRH) to speed up more. Hyderabad metro rail project will run along 71.16 km distance with three corridors having 66 stations in Hyderabad city.
The eight metro rail crossing will be at Bharat Nagar, Lakdikapul, Malakpet, Begumpet, Alugadda Bavi, Chilkalguda, Olliphanta Bridge & Secunderabad station. The elevated metro rail will cross South Central Railway (SCR) at these eight location with different height varying from 35 to 65 feet from the road level.
The metro rail viaducts which will cross SCR will also be constructed above the overhead power lines. This age-old overhead power line system called AC Traction is used in Hyderabad metro because they don’t have skilled engineers to adopt modern Third Rail technology of power supply for the train. AP Transco is assigned to supply uninterrupted power to railway traction and also stations and depots
Design approval was given after several inspections and discussions over technical points like heights and span lengths of the viaduct. It was carried out by many rail experts and engineers of SCR, Hyderabad metro rail (HMR) and L&TMRH.
The bridges were designed strictly according to railway safety standards. It also included provisions for running double-decker trains and giving space for laying extra railway line sin future. The managing director of HMD expressed his happiness to SCR officials for giving clearance to the crossings.
He wants the same coordination in the construction work of metro stations as it was for Rail Nilayam frontage which was in very bad condition. These metro stations are close to rail crossings at Secunderabad, Nampally, Begumpet and Bharat Nagar Railway or MMTS stations. Currently Rail Nilayam frontage has a pedestrian pathway along with a garden.
