Kochi Metro points out slow land acquisition
Kochi Metro authorities say that the land acquisition procedures for the project have considerably slowed down as the district administration is involved in the conduct of Lok Sabha polls. The authorities point out that Aluva and Palarivattom would continue without many obstacles but works on the other stretches may get disturbed.
A Kochi Metro official informed that the land acquisition processes have almost come to a standstill and the progress of the work will largely depend on the ability of the district administration to carry out land acquisition. However, Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) will be able to carry out civil work at places where land has already been handed over to it. The officials also point out that the signing of various memorandum of understanding (MoU) can take place only after polls. The land acquisition procedure for widening the Vyttila-Pettah road has also slowed down. Even the retendering of contract for supplying 75 coaches for Kochi Metro has been delayed by around 4 months, as per the officials.
A lot of work is required to be done on Jos Junction, Ernakulam junction railway station, Baneerjee Road, MG Road and SA Road. The encroachments need to be identified and removed by the authorities.
