MCG likely to be affected by Dahiya’s exit
Gurgaon- The news of sudden transfer of the Gurgaon municipal commissioner, Vijay Singh Dahiya, has made people worry about the speed of development of the city.
Though MCG Commissioner Vijay Singh Dahiya had took the position only two months before, the developmental works had gained momentum. Few days ago, Dahiya received his transfer orders and he has reportedly been posted as joint secretary in the finance department against a vacant post in Chandigarh.
During the former commissioner’s tenure, several issues that took place remained pending. But Dahiya’s entry accelerated the speed of projects that have been lagging behind.
The recent property tax collection is the best example for Dahiya’s work efficiency. Within two months he had collected Rs 40 crore rax while in 2011-12 the total property tax collected was only Rs 50 crore.
When Dahiya was appointed as the Commissioner, there was a serious struggle going on between the sanitation contractors and the company operating the solid waste management plant. Garbage carrying vehicles were not being allowed to the plant for many days and garbage was piling up high in the city. The commissioner managed to resolve the issue to quite an extent.
Another important civic service is water-supply. The previous Commissioner was not interested in taking the responsibility of water supply from the public health engineering department. But Mr. Dahiya, in his short tenure, had agreed to take over this service from PHE department.
Dahiya had also proposed to create a cycle track in the city, which is supposed to be the first of its kind in MCG.
Dahiya had set a benchmark by clearing all files within a day. He also directed his officials to do the same. The government has not yet found a suitable replacement. However, currently the Gurgaon divisional commissioner has been entrusted with handling this additional responsibility.
