Navi Mumbai metro project sees the light
Finally, the metro plan of Navi Mumbai sees the light of the day! City and Industrial Development Corporation (Cidco) is likely to start the bidding process soon for the project.
The awarding of bids would include for rolling stock and systems for Navi Mumbai’s first metro rail corridor – Belapur–Kharghar–Taloja–Pendhar.
A meeting was held recently with the bidders before the bidding to answer their queries. The whole tender has an estimate cost of Rs 1,020 crore and the corridor a price tag of Rs 1,985 crore.
As per the director and vice-chairman of Cidco, till date there has been no breaking of promises in the execution and deadline of the Navi Mumbai Metro project. Also, it has been confirmed that the project will be completed by 2015.
The submission of bids have been rescheduled, so that all the queries of the bidders can be answered.
The installation and testing of rolling stock would occur by end of 2014. For this project, around nine firms have shown interest to supply telecommunication, signalling, electrical, power supply systems, traction and SCADA, driving simulators, fare collection and rolling stock.
The first phase of the metro planned would be 11 km long and would connect Navi Mumbai with the proposed Navi Mumbai International Airport.
Earlier, it was claimed that a part of the Versova-Andheri-Ghatkopar metro route would be thrown open to the public in March 2013. However, the ground level officials alleged that the time given by the CM was too optimistic and dreamy.
The metro project in Mumbai is being officially supervised by the Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA), a public agency and its implementation is handled by Mumbai Metro One Private Limited which is a private firm. The officials of the public agency claim that the work will be over by December 2013 but the private firm claims that mid 2013 is final date.
However, all the critical works like roofing of stations, electrical and telecommunication works are still pending. Furthermore, it is claimed that the metro will be open to public by December 2013.
As per reports, the metro services for Versova and Airport road station were stopped and will start at one go up to Ghatkopar with the upcoming metro construction. With the upcoming metro in this route, the apartments in Mumbai will have good price appreciation and demand as well.
