NGT directs the developers to obtain green nod for the Sports City project
An upcoming housing project, Sports City, in Sector 150 of Noida will have to obtain Environmental Clearance (EC) before the commencement of any work. This was directed by the National Green Tribunal today and the developers of an upcoming housing project, Sports City have to strictly follow that.
A green bench headed by Justice Swatanter Kumar disposed of a petition filed by Mahendra Pandey. This petition had sought to restrain New Okhla Industrial Development Authority (NOIDA) and others from awarding the tender for the project. The grounds chosen for this restrain was that it has no jurisdiction in the matter.
NOIDA had invited tenders for the development of a world- class Sports City and the last date for submission of the same was June 26. The bench also directed that the Project Proponent, to whom the tender is awarded, has to obtain requisite permissions, particularly the EC, from the competent authority. This has to be done before the developer commences any part of the project. This matter is in accordance with the law and there should be no ambiguity or negligence in this matter.
Pandey has alleged that the housing project was against the prescribed norms of NOIDA Master Plan-2031. He also claimed that the Uttar Pradesh government and the Noida Authority had issued the scheme for the Sports City without obtaining mandatory approval of its sub-regional plan (Draft Master Plan -2031) from the National Capital Region Planning Board (NCPRB).
