Old buildings redevelopment in South Mumbai waits for final clearance
The redevelopment of of old buildings in South Mumbai awaits final environmental clearance. The work on the city’s largest project of cluster redevelopment of buildings can start only after this final nod.
The Bohra community’s Rs 1,500-crore redevelopment project in Mumbai, spread over 14 acres in Bhendi Bazar recently got approval from the State Environment Appraisal Committee-2 (SEAC-2). Next, it has to get the final approval from the State Environment Impact Assessment Authority for the work to begin.
The project is executed by the Saifee Burhani Upliftment Trust (SBUT) and after the final nod, the redevelopment work will start in April 2013.
The houses in Bhendi Bazar which stretches from the JJ flyover junction at Byculla to Minara Masjid on the south houses one million-strong Dawoodi Bohra community. The work will comprise of nine clusters, with buildings ranging from 15 to 62 floors.
The nine clusters consist of Cluster 1 with maximum height of buildings of 65 metres with 58 Flats, 232 shops and 88 rooms. Cluster 2 will have maximum height of buildings of 101.3 metres with 652 flats and 185 shops. Cluster 3 will have maximum height of buildings of 120 metres with 582 flats and 172 shops and so on.
