Parking rate hike to be effective soon

taxiNew Delhi- With the new parking policy with hiked fee, the residents in Delhi will have to shell out extra  money very soon. The municipal corporations led by BJP  has planned to double up the parking rates from Rs. 10 to Rs. 20 for three hours.

This hike by the BJP was imposed despite giving a promise in 2012 for not increasing the taxes. Perhaps as per the sources, the party has increased the rates out of compulsion as all the three corporations are undergoing a financial crunch. There will soon be a meeting held by the Senior BJP councilors from the three corporations which will finalize the rates.

As per an official, they have planned to charge a sum of Rs. 20 for the first three hours and Rs. 10 for the subsequent hours. For decades the parking rates had not been revised and the current hike is nominal when compared to the hike proposed by the Delhi Government as per the recommendations of various committees.

Due to the financial crunch, the corporations are finding ways to increase their revenue and also due to the upcoming BJP elections being scheduled this year. On the other  hand, the corporations are also finding it difficult to cater the public with the basic necessities due to the lack of funds.

The official also stated that they are compelled to raise the parking fee due to the above reasons and that the Delhi government is seldom giving them the basic financial support. However, they are being helped in the form of a loan and that there will be no increase in the property tax.

The parking rates will be uniformly followed all over the city and will be effective  after a meeting with the BJP president and the councilors from the corporations. Although there were different rate sheets produced by three different corporations, the BJP has decided to hold the same number throughout the city, as they do not want to baffle the citizens.
