PMC recovers Rs 560 crore as property tax
The property tax department of Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) was able to recover Rs 560 crore as property tax for the fiscal year April 2012- February 2013.
As per an official, it is for the first time that the civic body is able to collect such an amount in less than a year. The civic body is yet to recover another Rs 500 crore as property tax.
The department has formed special squads earlier in order to recover the tax of properties in Pune in time. Also, defaulters’ list had been attached with the ones who have not paid tax after repeated reminders.
Discounts were also offered for those who paid their property taxes in the first two months. A 10% discount if the tax is Rs 25,000 or less, while a 5% discount is offered if the amount is more than Rs 25,000 for those who pay their taxes before May 31.
PMC had recently announced the budget for financial year 2013-14. The chairman of the standing committee of the civic body presented a budget of Rs 4167.50 crore for this fiscal year.
Earlier, municipal commissioner had presented a budget of Rs 3605.02 crore which was increased by Rs 534.48 crore to the present value. Compared to the current budget, last year it was approved at around Rs 3633 crore.
This budget has kept Rs 30 crore for basic civic infrastructure for the recently merged 28 villages and Rs 20 crore for the development of Kothrud and surrounding areas. However, nothing has been made clear as what the developments would be.
Out of the total, Rs 56 crore has been kept for the development of 28 new villages which are going to be merged in the PMC limits in the near future.
Also, many other infrastructure developments have been planned in Pune like new grade separators, subways and foot over bridges at Baner, Balewadi, Someshwar Phata, Baner Phata, Paud Road, Kothrud police station and Karve Road with a budget of Rs 23 crore.
Furthermore, a Rs 20 crore fund has been kept aside for road development of Kothrud and a science centre in Baner-Balewadi area.
In another news, Pimpri Chinchwad Municipal Corporation (PCMC) is able to spend only 42% of the total fund which was allocated to the civic body for capital intensive development works for the financial year 2012-13.
