Basic civic services not as per satisfaction in Mumbai
As per a study by Praja Foundation, the citizens in Mumbai are not satisfied by the services provided by the civic body and corporators.
Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) has not shown any good performance and according to the report, average citizen satisfaction levels with the civic body’s performance was only 58%.
Around 29,852 complaints were submitted merely on the condition of the city’s roads.
However, the scenario is totally different in case of BMC. The civic body claims that it is making better roads and that the roads are in good condition. Out of the total complaints, 26,056 complaints were only about potholes and bad patches.
Despite the bad condition of roads, corporators are scared to ask queries regarding the same to BMC. Only 100 queries by 227 corporators are regarding roads.
Also, there has been drastic increase in the number of complaints with the introduction of pothole tracking system. This has enabled citizens to click photos of bad roads and upload them on website.
Furthermore, after roads, the number of complaints are receiving about the poor drainage system in the city. The number of complaints were about 16,194.
Also, the civic body which is an authority body, supposed to keep records of all the plots available in the city, but fails to do so. It does not have the data of either the existing open spaces or the plots to be acquired.
Even other government agencies apart from BMC have lot of numbers on parks, gardens, playgrounds and open plots, none of them matching with each other. The figures on open spaces vary in surveys carried out by government agencies and the NGOs.
