CBI to investigate Assam minister’s land grabbing case
Guwahati- CBI will be looking into the case of recent land grabbing in Assam in which cabinet minister Khor Sing Engti, who holds the portfolios of Animal Husbandry and Veterinary, Hill Areas, Mines and Minerals, was allegedly involved.
The Gauhati High Court has asked the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) to investigate the case of the land grabbing incident in Karbi Anglong district and submit a report within three months.
The petitioner alleged that the minister had sent goons to attack the family whose land was allegedly grabbed. So the court had directed to provide security to the family.
The incident took place in October 2010 when two girls of the complainant family were brutally beaten up by goons. Fortunately, the girls were rescued by paratroopers passing by in the area.
The two sisters Radhika Shah and Gayatri Shah had written a letter to the Chief Justice on May 4, 2012 alleging that from past six years, their family had been undergoing physical and mental torture because of the minister. Their property was damaged with a view to grabbing their land adjacent to the residence of the Minister in a village under Howraghat police station.
But the minister said to the court that he was not involved in any such incident and that the family is reporting falsely at the behest of his political opponents.
The complainant alleged that police did not take proper action against the minister. So in 2012, the complainant wrote a letter to the chief justice after which the court took up the case. The complainant sought a high-level investigation into the case since it is related to a cabinet minister.
Legal investigation revealed that earlier the police did not take proper action. The Assam Human Rights Commission took up the matter last year and sought an inquiry report from police.
