Odisha govt to prepare master plan for land use control in towns
Odisha- In order to monitor the land use control in urban areas, the Odisha government has decided to draft a master plan for all 106 towns by the end of 2014-15.
The master plan in 53 towns was prepared by Geographical Information System (GIS) mapping and survey conducted through remote sensing.
According to the Director of Town Planning, the development plans for Cuttack, Bhubaneswar, Khurda, Jatani and Choudwar has been prepared and implemented already. Similarly, plans have been prepared for Puri, Konark, Sambalpur, Burla, Hirakud, Jharsuguda, Brajaraj Nagar, Belpahar and Paradip.
The draft plans invited public objections of the concerned towns. The database of another 20 towns was also prepared by GIS mapping and remote sensing survey.
He added that the master plan for all these towns will be prepared soon. It is essential to prepare the master plan as it can check the land use control. As per sources, comprehensive Development Plan is also needed for town planning as it provides basic infrastructure to people.
Although, master plan is necessary to be prepared in every two to three years for town development but it has not been prepared in for various cities from last several decades. For instance, in Berhampur, the last development plan was prepared in 1969.
The illegal colonies in the towns are growing randomly due to lack of comprehensive development plan. It is found that many people are also facing numerous difficulties in constructing houses.
Along with absence of proper master plan, traffic and water scarcity problems are also witnessed every second day.
