Giri Nagar basically falls in Ward 8 of the Coimbatore Corporation. The drainage condition in whole of Ward 8 is bad. Giri Nagar is also affected. Most of the drains in this area are wide open and give off a horrible smell. The sewage overflows the drains sometimes, especially during rainy season, causing major problems to the people in this locality. There have been several accidents in this area because of the drains too. Several children have fallen into the wider part of the drains. The corporation undertook a project to improve the sewage system. But the project was stopped midway, causing even further problems to the people living here. Hey, the construction has already started in January as per the schedule. There were no more delays this time. In the past there have been several delays regarding this project. Initially it was supposed to have started in 2011. But at that time the whole project went under the drawing board again to start over with the designing process. Though initially planned as a 3-tier flyover, there were some talks in between of going for a 2-tier one instead. But they finalised the 3-tier plan last October and were supposed to start with the construction by January.Hey, the construction has already started in January as per the schedule. Hey, if you want a 5BHK, then you’ll have to go for the villa in the TVH Vista Ville project. The apartments are 1, 2, and 3 BHKs. There are no 5BHK apartments. Though the 3BHKs are pretty big, around 2000 square feet and cost around Rs 87 Lakhs. On the other hand, the villas are over 3400 square feet and cost a whopping Rs. 3.40 crores. The best place to live in Coimbatore, in my opinion. Ever since it has come under the Coimbatore City Corporation, Kovai Pudur is seeing a lot of development in social infrastructure. There is a quite famous police training academy here along with good schools and colleges. So if you have children you can just send them to any of the schools here, like CS Academy School, Western Ghats International School, RKV School, etc. The colleges of VLB Arts, VLB Engineering and Management, CBM College are also very famous here.The best place to live in Coimbatore, in my opinion. hey, the mettupalayam-Neelambur bypass project is going on here. but, due to the protest from the farmers it is being halted. I think this wont be helpful to the connectivity, but yes, this road in other ways is usually connecting the city of coimbatore to other important destinations of Tamil Nadu. It will be a major help for all those living on this road, because generally during the rainy seasons, the residents face severe water logging, which poses a series of problems. Hi, good call with the Sreevatsa Sankara project. I really like the apartments there. I don’t think you’ll get any apartments in the phase I of this project, since it has been available for possession since January 2013. You can give it a shot though. I think you would be luckier if you tried with the Phase II, the possession date is December of this year, so apartments might still be available for booking. Ya you know, Coimbatore is actually rated higher than Kolkata and Gurgaon as a business area. You are asking about the infrastructure, yes it is good. The local government is also working to improve the roads and infrastructure in this place. There will be a few more bridges and flyovers coming up in the next few months. The transport system is also going to be remodelled and new buses will be released. This city is actually developing very fast and you should definitely shift here. According to the latest news : A total of 488 reserve sites have been surveyed in east zone, 54 and 243 sites in east and south zones respectively. The corporation has also identified 156 reserve sites in the north zone and 251 in the west . As per development control regulations, 10% of the total area of a layout approved by the directorate of town and country planning should be kept aside and handed over as reserve site to the city municipal corporation. However, many of the reserve sites in the corporation limits are encroached upon. Action has now been taken against 15 identified encroachers and there are signs in front of the reserved site mentioning that it is government property and shouldn't be infiltrated by any means. Now the plan is to just destroy enroachments and reclaim the land as that is all that can be done. I think real estate will improve in the area if these sort of issues are rectified. Residents themselves should know when to not cross the line. Layout, Amman Koil Street, Vinayagar Koil Street, Parthasarathy Street, Shastri Street, Ganga Street, Dr. Bhabha Street. Basically, the drainage work that started in Venkitapuram and other areas of the neighbourhood has not been completed efficiently. This is really not fair on the part of Coimbatore Corporation and if they want to provide us with civic facilities like a proper drainage system then it should not be with the cost and compromise of other facilities as basic as roads! School children need to be picked up from new bus stops by parents, as the buses and vans refuse to come into the narrow lanes where the roads are very bad. Well actually more people died because of this. 13 men, 3 women and 3 school boys. A couple of these deaths were even identified to be suicides. The police has started to take action about the situation. Land owners are strictyly advised to keep their wells closed or covered with a guaze. They have been told to avoid letting people come next to their wells completely. Saravanampatti is known to be a good locality to live in so don't let this incidient change that. Be sure to tell your children also about the dangers of these wells and to keep away from them at all costs. The good news is that the laying of a new pipeline by the Corporation will substantially increase the duration of water supply to Ganapathy as well as surrounding areas. The water supply will now provided on alternate days instead of once in five or six days. Yes actually the thing is, every summer the situation is very bad. During other seasons, water quantity is actually in surplus. It is the fault of the civic authorities for not constructing more water bodies when they had the chance. Because of this, a lot of people have lesser quantities of water during the season when they need it the most. Drastic action should be taken against those still using motor pumps. Even now, if water is supplied on alternative days and in lesser quantity instead of supply every 4 days, this will seriously solve the water shortage issue these residents face! Yes this project was implemented last year and it is called the Shunya project! The ultimate aim is to establish zero waste. The site where this composting happens is in Thadagam road in RS Puram . What happens is that the source of waste from each household in the locality first needs to be segregated and then all the wet waste including kitchen and other briodegradable waste is taken and composted. This is a really efficient form of waste management and it also shows the advanced thinking of the Coimbatore Corporation. This has really helped in 3 ways. First, the quantity of waste taken to Vellalore dump yard is lessened. Secondly, the fuel expenditure involved has also come down. Hey there. The July monsoon has brought with it heavy rains that are feeding water bodies such as the Siruvani reservoir in Kerela. The civic authorities have plans of utilising this increased water level and set up new pipeline connections for Coimbatore. Everyone knows that Coimbatore can get extremely hot in the summer months and during that time, water supply is irregular and there is water shortage all over the city. This should hopefully help us overcome that situation. Just last year, there was supposed to be a new pipeline installed, but the Siruvani reservoir went dry. Cross Cut Road, one the biggest shopping malls in Coimbatore, is located in Gandhipuram. Even Coimbatore district central jail is here. Only problem was that traffic became very bad at some point because many people moved to this locality. To be honest it is not looking good. The scheme road project in Coimbatore has still remained in the planning stage even after 2 years of its announcement. The plan was to complete at least one scheme road every year, but no actual work has yet been done about that. As of now the link road between the Sathyamangalam road and Thudiyalur road is being given priority. I think that’s good, because the Thudiyalur road junction is one of the busiest in the city, but the construction on the scheme roads also need to get started.To be honest it is not looking good. Q: Has any action been taken to remove the unhygienic canal that passes through Kalapatti that causes a lot of disturbance to airport authorities? And is this a nice locality to move to? Are there any other prominent civic issues?

Yeah the airport authorities want to get this canal diverted, or at least to cover up the section that passes through the airport. But obviously there has to be some problem or the other and diversion work is not possible as the corporation will have to get more land for this process and there is a lot of other work that will have to be done. Q: I'm going to have to move to Thadagam soon but I've heard a lot of people say that driving here is a pain because of the bad roads. Have the civic authorities done anything about this issue?

A drainage work led to a lot of chaos and a number of traffic bottlenecks were caused as a result. Vendors, electricity poles, parked vehicles all crowded thadagam road and there was literally no space for moving vehicles to go. There was a project by State Highways Department to widen the road from 7 metres to 10 metres and it was undertaken. Q: I’m currently in the process of building my own home in Peelamedu, Coimbatore. How important is it to have a rainwater harvesting tank constructed? I’m thinking of cutting the cost as much as possible.

No no, don’t even think of not installing the rainwater harvestor. The corporation are coming down very hard on whoever has not installed it. Thing is there is still some water supply problems in Coimbatore. Till now some residents don’t get regular water supply. So the corporation wants us to harvest the rainwater, and not depend completely on the corporation’s water supply, which is extremely unreliable. One of the major issue was that the blockage was so heavy, that even the desilter machine was getting stuck in all the garbage. Word was that it would be cleaned manually, but nothing ever happened after that. They have many amenities, so the price is higher, but I think you’ll get good future benefits in terms of rent and stuff. You can ask for more than Rs. 25,000 easily per month. Also, it is closer to the PSG Medical college in Krishna colony, which in my opinion is a better neighborhood than nanjundapuram road. Number of units wise, it is the same as Saffron Buds. It is in Krishna Colony, which is very close to both Avinashi Road and Trichy road, both in parallel lanes to either side of the property. It is also close to the Ramanathapuram junction. Krishna Colony has many other residential properties, actually another one from Elysium itself, called Elysium Oyster. This particular project has been subject to lot of protests and speculations from over 5-6 years. It’s still a developing area, things are just slowly popping up in this area. I see good potential. This area is very congested especially in the evening. The road connecting Nanjundapuram road and the main road is jam packed in morning and evening. In my experience, you won’t find shortage of any facility in Thadagam road. It’s a very well equipped area with more than 10 schools within a 0-3 km radius. I was passing through when this happened as stood around to check what was transpiring. A group of residents at around lunch time stopped by to look at the work and questioned the work that is being done. I would like to add that a road is being laid on the bund for the 1.2 km, according to an official of the Corporation.
