Upload videos of potholes on BMC website soon
Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) is developing a video feature on its pothole-tracking website to upload videos.
The website for this purpose was launched in November 2011 and currently, the citizens can upload only pictures clicked through their android phones.
Very soon, uploading the videos of the potholes in the city will be an option. The video feature, too, will be available only to users of android phones.
The photo or group of photos that are being uploaded now do not serve the purpose as there are long uneven stretches on the roads. The video feature will help understand the situation on the ground and tackle potholes more effectively.
The pothole-tracking system has been built with a budget of Rs 60 crore to help citizens to upload photos of potholes and geo tag them.
Once the pictures are uploaded, an engineer from BMC visits the site and ensures that it is fixed within 48 hours. Failure to do so results in the engineer being penalized.
Many citizens were upset over the thought that the system is only open to users having android phone. Engineers had alleged that they were fined because of glitches in the system.
From this year onwards, BMC has added three more technologies to fill potholes this year. These three technologies were finalized after approval from the standing technical advisory committee.
